Greetings from the New USATF Hawaii President I am honored to lead USATF Hawaii this year. The newly elected board is moving forward to strengthen our organization which is focused on achieving positive outcomes for our athletes in both track and cross country. The USATF Hawaii officers for 2024 are: William Gardner President, Kyle Davis Vice President, Joni Chin Secretary, and Daryl Carter Treasurer. The newly established executive board members were elected on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 2:45 pm. This election followed Hawaii USATF by-laws and established a quorum with the approval of both USATF National office and the Hawaii USATF voting members. This executive board of directors have been working on the USATF mission, strategic planning, and complying with all USATF credentials and mandates. The good news is USATF Hawaii has retained several track facilities for the summer (eight track meets) as well as several cross-country venues for the fall (six cross country meets) which will enable our youth and masters to compete and strive for excellence in a safe environment.
USATF Hawaii’s goals for year 2024 are as follows:
1. Increase membership
2. Increase track officials
3. Help Hawaii youth by:
a. Promoting physical, social, and emotional health
b. Giving more opportunities to compete in national competitions
c. Giving information about athletic scholarship opportunities
d. Collaborating with public elementary and middle schools to provide track and cross-country programs/clubs for youth
e. Gaining access for more track facilities
f. Networking with all islands in Hawaii to get youth to join track and field clubs.
4. Establish collegiate USATF track clubs by collaborating with UH, HPU, BYU and Chaminade intramural sports.
5. Start an end of Summer Track Award ceremony (best male athlete, best female athlete, most improve male athlete, and most improve female athlete awards)
6. The First Annual Helene and Mark Zeug Track Championship will be held on July 6, 2024. This will be the qualifying meet for the USATF National Junior Olympics and will be held at Mililani High School Track and Field Complex.
The Board humbly asks the members to support USATF Hawaii by volunteering and being involved in the sport. I also want to personally thank everyone who cares about this sport and promise to do my best to drive competitive excellence and popular engagement in a safe environment for all Hawaii athletes.
Respectfully,
William Gardner
USATF Hawaii President
